Youth Outreach Worker Services

Providing Support and Hope

Youth Outreach Services is a community-based intervention to assist Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal youth in at-risk neighbourhoods. The services support youth in their capacity to make healthy life choices, promotes the development of skills and encourages civic participation.

Youth are supported to find opportunities, solutions and resources to address their own social, behavioural, emotional and educational and employment needs. Support may be traditional, non-traditional or, if necessary, emergency services.

Youth Outreach Services do not receive formal referrals for service. Services occur through the Youth Outreach Worker's direct engagement with the youth on the street. Youth Outreach Workers work in partnership with families, educators and community programs and agencies.

How Outreach Works

Outreach involves coordinated activities that motivate at-risk youth and their families to make positive life choices including:

1) Receiving and sharing information about their interests, concerns and needs

2) Providing relevant information

3) Guiding, mentoring and facilitating access to programs and services

4) Enabling positive community participation
